  • ✓Correct length for the country (SWIFT IBAN registry)
  • ✓Check digits (ISO 13616, modulo 97)

Frequently asked questions

How do I recognize a QR-IBAN?

+

Look at digits 5 to 9 of a Swiss or Liechtenstein IBAN — the institution ID (QR-IID). If it is between 30000 and 31999, it is a QR-IBAN. QR-IBANs can only receive payments with a QR reference.

Can I use a QR-IBAN for normal transfers?

+

No. A QR-IBAN is only for QR-bill payments with a QR reference. For normal transfers and for QR-bills with SCOR or no reference, use your normal IBAN.

Does a valid checksum mean the account exists?

+

No. The checksum catches typos, but only the bank can confirm that an account exists and is open.

Where does the bank data come from?

+

From the bank master (BC-Bankenstamm) published by SIX, which lists every Swiss and Liechtenstein bank with its IID and BIC.
